The Stars

18 May

“Smile Betsy, smile! Have you ever seen so many cameras?” Emily whispered through her teethes to her friend and partner on battlefield, her beloved Betsy. Emily was overwhelmed by all that attention they got.

“I’d rather be on my B-42 again.” Betsy whispered back.

Not used to be famous and praised they both were awkwardly standing on the field among the battle aircraft.

Betsy and Emily were the very first women to survive the worst air attack on Britain during the war. Unaware of their even more famous future to come, they both were just wishing to get done with this posing for reporters.

They loved to be a part of something big as fighting in a war. Until the day they both learned the hard way how all the faces of war really look like…

They had just a few minutes to leave the town and they would never see their home again.
Greta looked out of the window and saw the crows sitting on the telegraph wires.

“As if they are waiting for us to leave, so that they can take everything away.”
Their small house was not safe anymore. It would be the first place the soldiers would be heading to.

“And so they will”, Hans knew what would happen if they would not run away. Concentration camp for her and public execution for him.

Hans took the hand of his wife and ran, leaving everything behind.

New York City Getaway

1 Mar

Emma was studying the map. She wanted to be sure they would not lose any time and be in New York as fast as they could. It was supposed to be their new life in a new town. Josh called it a fresh start. She was not completely sure moving to one of the biggest cities in the world would erase what they did. But she agreed to move.

Could they really start over? She kept asking herself. Is it possible to wash away all your sins by leaving them behind and run away from it all? There was no time to think of the reasonable answers. Sooner or later somebody would find out. They had to leave.

wood-trees-house-branchesEmma looked at their perfect house with the perfect porch and white fence for the last time. It was her dream house. But now she had to let it go.

“This is the smallest price we have to pay”, Josh whispered to her ear.

“I know. I know we have to do this. I want to leave before anyone starts asking questions.”

Josh put her arm around her waist and looked into her eyes.

“New York.”

“New York it is.”

Emma kissed him on his cheek and got into the car.

They left the house exactly how they first found it. It was covered in the rays of the new rising sun.
